SAMUT SONGKHRAM

Thailand’s Charming
Riverside Province

The province provides a perfect balance between nature, local culture, and unique attractions, making it one of Central Thailand's most rewarding destinations.

Samut Songkhram

Is the smallest province in Thailand, located about 70 km southwest of Bangkok. Despite its size, the province is rich in culture, history, and traditional riverside lifestyles. The Mae Klong River flows through the province before reaching the Gulf of Thailand, creating a landscape of canals, mangrove forests, coconut plantations, and vibrant local communities. It is famous for authentic Thai experiences, unique markets, fresh seafood, and eco-tourism activities.

Khlong Khon Monkey

Is one of the province's most famous eco-tourism destinations. Visitors can take a long-tail boat through the mangrove forests, observe wildlife, and encounter the area's famous macaque monkeys. The monkeys are known for swimming between the mangroves and often approach boats looking for food. The area also offers mud-skiing, shell collecting, and mangrove reforestation activities, making it a popular destination for nature lovers.

Mae Klong Railway Market

Is one of the world's most unusual markets. Vendors set up their stalls directly on active railway tracks. When a train approaches, merchants quickly retract umbrellas and move goods away from the rails. Moments after the train passes, the market returns to normal as if nothing happened. This dramatic spectacle attracts visitors from around the world.

Amphawa Floating Market

is one of Thailand's most famous floating markets and a symbol of traditional canal-side living. Unlike many tourist-oriented markets, Amphawa still preserves much of its local character. Wooden houses line the canal, while vendors sell grilled seafood, Thai desserts, drinks, and handmade souvenirs from both boats and riverside shops. One of the most memorable activities is the evening boat trip to see fireflies illuminating the mangrove trees along the canal.
